Activities

Outreach
I have 9 years of experience in participating in and organizing outreach. I regularly fill requests to bring insect science to schools, scout groups, and other organizations. Recently, I have been working more with teachers to build activities to fulfill their curriculum. To reach adults in the community, I organized the first annual Bugs and Brews event where NC State grad students brought live insects and insect snacks to a local brewery open to the public where we had nearly 120 attendees.

SciComm
My science communication focuses on telling the human stories in science. In particular, I am interested in how human behavior drives acceptance or rejection of science-based advancement. I am always open to using new media and methods for SciComm and have used social media, YouTube, and written articles to tell stories. Links to all of my SciComm products can be found on the Curriculum Vitae page.

International Experience
I participate in agricultural volunteerism abroad as a way to have a deeper connection to local communities and learn about other cultures. Through experiences in Ecuador and Malaysia, I learned how to build community-engaged projects with equal participation at all stages of project development and implementation. Feel free to contact me with more questions.
