So it's really free?

Yep! It's really, really free.

Since I started photography in high school, I have always enjoyed making portraits more than any other type of photography. I was really interested in trying wedding photography as a side gig since I am pretty dang happy in my day job as a scientist (see our lab webpage). I started doing free sessions around town to build a portfolio, and in doing so, I met so many amazing people and heard so many reasons why free photography services helped them. It really gave me pause. Did I want to build a business? Or just develop a really fun hobby that could help others in my community?

I think it's tempting to monetize everything, but I also live in an awesome community of retirees where so many services are supported by volunteers. Some of my own paid work is supported by volunteers. To all of you, thanks so much. Here's my little piece to give back.

My Asks

Flaky is a great quality in biscuits, but not people

If we book, please, arrive on time and honor our session date. I live an awesome, busy life, and if we have a photography session booked, I have probably shifted my schedule for everything from weekends away to grocery shopping to honor our agreement. I know weather can be challenging in the PNW, but I am ready and prepared to get flexible with shooting settings or wet gear and hope you are the same. Please, respect my time and I will do the same for you!

Communicating and Receiving Photos

My preferred method of communicating is over email or text message. I work a full-time job, so I am replying when I can which means it might not be as quickly as you would get with a professional photographer. I might post on Facebook, but I can't access those messages on my phone when I am driving to our session. For a one-hour session, you'll receive photos after 4 weeks unless otherwise agreed upon. For a wedding, it will take 6 weeks for the full set of edited photos. It shocked me, too - photo editing takes longer than the session itself!

Give Back To Your Community

Big or small, we all have something to give back to our community. There's some really great research showing how much our mood is boosted just by having a nice conversation with someone at the grocery store. If you feel happy with the photos you receive, consider giving back some of your special talents and positive energy to your community.
